Small antique J R Smith rocking horse c1910
Approximately 30” high from floor to ear tips. Stand length 36"
This pretty little horse has had professional restoration to his original paintwork that was discovered under later gloss overpaint. Areas of damaged gesso stabilised and re applied where missing. He retains his original glass eyes and lovely eye painting. He has a soft, natural wavy horse hair on hide mane and tail.
His new leather tack has been distressed in keeping with his paintwork, the saddle cloths made from old rexine and trim.
His swing stand could not be saved, apart from the hoof rails, so a replica Smith stand has been made for him.
A really sweet little rocking horse and sturdy enough to be put back into service, although it would be a pity to spoil his carefully restored paintwork.
He would look stunning displayed with old dolls and bears because of his diminutive size.
